Dave was born in St. Louis, MO, on Sept 11, 1927, but his family relocated to Pittsburg, PA, when he was a small child. He attended school in Pittsburg before joining the Marines in June of 1945. Dave served aboard the USS Wisconsin and the USS Leyte during WWII and received an honorable discharge as a Private First Class in June 1949. After his discharge, Dave relocated to the Channelview area where he met the love of his life, Bertha Caldwell. They were married on April 19, 1950, and moved to Tulsa, OK where Dave attended Spartan School of Aviation and received his A&P License.
After graduation, Dave and Bertha returned to the Channelview area where Dave began a lifelong career in Aviation with Trans Texas Airways, Texas International, and finally Continental Airlines.
Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife Bertha, his brother James, mother Marian, and father David Sr.
He is survived by a family that was tremendously blessed by his presence and will miss him greatly.
Survivors include brothers Bobby and Norm and sister Jean. Sons, Dan Strang and wife Ann, and Herb Strang. Grandchildren Jeremy “Jed” Strang and wife Tara, Katie Hargraves and husband Justin, Aislinn Hendrix and husband Mark, and Garrett Strang. Great-Grandchildren Kelly Strang, Laney Strang, and Logan Hargraves.
Dave was a passionate Harley Davidson Motorcycle Rider weathering through most of the lower 48 states and even a few Canadian providences. He enjoyed the sights and sounds of the journey, whether it was across town or across the country. He was an avid hunter who would enjoy the ride to the lease as much as the hunt. He loved fishing with his family as well as inviting the members of his church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the National Rifle Association where Dave was a lifelong member or Old River Terrace United Methodist Church where he was a devoted member.
