Darryl Dean Yates' Obituary
Darryl Dean Yates, 53, of Channelview, TX passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was born to the late Benard Elzner Yates and Mae Rose Wildgrube Yates, on February 7, 1961, in Houston, TX. He grew up in the Cloverleaf area of Houston and moved to the farm in Leesville, TX, in 1977. Darryl graduated from Nixon High School in 1979 and returned to Houston in 1981. He became self-employed and practiced the skills lovingly taught to him by his father. He was a very gifted and talented carpenter and remodeled homes until the time of his passing. He married Karen Lynne Dees in
1989, and they were married for 23 years. Darryl was an outdoor enthusiast and an avid hunter. His passions were spending time with his sons at the deer lease, caring for the cows, and assisting his boys with their many FFA animal projects. Darryl is survived by his two sons, Darryl Craig Yates and Matthew Ryan Yates and their mother, Karen Lynne Yates. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, and in-laws, Benard Ray Yates, Orvetta Yates Grayson and husband Gerald, Janice Yates Martin and husband Joe, Murry Bell Yates and wife Diane, Donna Yates Upshaw, and Donald Glenn Yates and wife Nell. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his brothers John and James Yates, sister Bonnie
Garrison Yates, and brother-in-law Danny Upshaw. A memorial service for Darryl will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at Family Church, 14718 Woodford Drive, Houston, TX 77015. In lieu of flowers, his children have established a scholarship fund to be presented to a deserving Channelview FFA high school senior.
