Mr. Darden Ray Curtis' Obituary
Darden Curtis was born on May 19, 1935 along with his twin sister Darlene. They were born to William Houston Curtis and Viola Jeffrey Curtis in Mills County in the little country town of Mullin, Texas. They joined the family with their brother E.J. and sister Maxine. They arrived on their big brother E.J.’s birthday.
Darden is survived by his wife, Mona of 57 years; his daughter, Ellen and her husband Jeff; grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Jay, Amber, Dan and wife Brooke, Max, Luke and Madelynn; great grandchildren, Lilly, Jayson and Emily; he is survived by his sister-in-law Donna Arledge and her husband Tillman; he is also survived by numerous beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. And also precious friends from his church family. Special friend of the family Frank Sumner.
Darden was preceded in death by parents Houston and Viola Curtis, Daughter Darla Curtis, Son Monte Curtis, Grandson Matthew Ray Curtis, Sister Darlene Bryant and husband Jim, Brother E.J. Curtis and wife Willie, Sister Maxine Alsbrooks and husband Elease, Mother-in-law Lois Blue, Grandmother-in-law Mona Harrington.
Darden was a man of faith, conviction, character, wisdom, strength and courage. He was always quick with a laugh, usually always able to find humor in a situation. He always had a smile on his face and chose to look on the bright side of things.
He had such love and devotion for his family and loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. All the grandchildren and great grandchildren were his favorites.
He was a member of the Greens Bayou Church of Christ for nearly 50 years. He served as a faithful member and was a former Deacon and Treasurer.
He was employed as a Rail Traffic Controller for the Houston Belt & Terminal Railroad retiring from there after 37 years of service.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the years of 1956-1958.
Darden played basketball and baseball in his younger years. He loved baseball and coached his son Monte in Little League winning a championship in his first year of coaching. He passed on that love of baseball to his son and grandsons.
The family wishes to thank his beloved physician Dr. Lilette Daumas, Dr. Amir Karni, Dr. Charles Manner and A Better Hospice for all the loving care he received along the way.
Serving as pallbearers are: Dan Lewis, Max Graham, Luke Graham, Jeff Scott, Jay Reynolds, Bob McCreight, Daryl Runge, Frank Sumner. Honorary pallbearers are: Tillman Arledge, Big John Davis, Curtis Horton, and Steve Barrett, Tom Petroff, and Don Alsbrooks.
