Mrs. Clara D. French's Obituary
Clara D French, 91, passed from this life on Friday, March 14, 2008 in Brookshire,TX. She was born October 2, 1916 in Latexo, TX to Clarence Turner and Mary Victoria Mims Turner. She graduated from Latexo High School in 1933. Known as "Clara D" to her family, everyone called her Grandmommie. She was a fantastic cook and made everything from scratch. Clara D especially liked spicy foods. She was also a huge sports fan known to yell and holler at TV during games. When Robert was growing up she would sit in the car during baseball games. Every time somebody did something good, she would beat on the top of the car and blow the horn to cheer them on. She supported her son's interest in playing baseball and followed his coaching career by going to his football and baseball team games. Watching Tiger Woods play golf and traveling to Texas vs Texas A&M football games brought her particular joy. Her family - son, daughter-in-law, granddaughters, grandsons-in-law, and great-granddaughters loved watching sports on TV, game shows, dominos, and traveling. Being an immaculate housekeeper requires extreme organization - she knew where everyting was and could tell you exactly where it was without getting up. A highlight of her many year career with the Rice Hotel as Head Cashier and Hostess was the evening she served dinner to JFK prior to his assassination. Grandmommie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches, TX and loved Sunday School and all of the activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert M. French; sisters Ruby Goolsby, Deloris Ellis, and Meta Moore; and her brother Olin Jackson Turner. Survivors include her son Robert C. French and wife Brenda; granddaughters Robyn Lee Tschantz and her husband Todd and Aimee Denise Ennis and husband Lyle; great-granddaughters Taylor Alexandra Tschantz, Sarah Elizabeth Ennis, Madison Anslee Tschantz, and Katy Lee Ennis; sister U.L. Bradley; brothers R.C. Turner and Jake Turner. Funeral services were held on Tuesdy, March 18, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Charles Wisdom officiating. Interment was in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
