Mr. Charles (Charlie) S. Nichols' Obituary
Charles (Charlie) S. Nichols, 86, passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 16, 2011 in Houston. Mr. Nichols was born on January 12, 1925 to Arvil and Edna Grimes Nichols. Mr. Nichols served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Army. He retired from Brown and Root after over 20 years of service. Mr. Nichols was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene. His beloved wife Dollie preceded him in death in 2000. Surviving are their children Charlene Hausmann and her husband Bob and Ricky Nichols and his wife Donna; his grandchildren Charles Rowe and wife Amber, Scott Rowe and wife Lorraine, and Effie Upshaw and husband Josh; great-grandchildren Jason Upshaw and Charlie J. Rowe; brothers Eugene Nichols, William (Pete) Nichols and wife Faye and his sisters Evelene Swift, Margaret Brown and Beatrice Usher and husband Tom. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James Nichols, Johnny Nichols, Edward Nichols, and Harold Nichols and his sister Louise Nichols. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, October 20, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in San Jacinto Memorial Park. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Solari Hospice Care for their compassionate care during the last days of Charlie's illness. Maintaining his independence was the thing Charlie valued the most and was fortunate to have been able to do to the end of his life.
