Catherine George's Obituary
Catherine “Cat” George passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 21, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's/Dementia.
Born on September 2, 1940, in Talladega, Alabama, Catherine was raised by her devoted mother, Ann Ruth Warwick, along with the loving support of her aunts Mildred Swain (“Aunt Bo”), Rosie Mae Threat (“Aunt Put Tut”), and Bernice Richardson (“Aunt Bonnie”). She attended elementary school in Talladega before moving to Gary, Indiana, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School.
Catherine later attended San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas, where she discovered her passion for early childhood education. She went on to dedicate her career to teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten students as a Teacher’s Assistant. Her love for children touched countless young lives in Indiana, Texas, and South Carolina.
Catherine will be remembered as a joy to be around. She loved her family deeply, and her infectious laugh could brighten any room. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and playfully joking with those around her. Catherine was always impeccably dressed—and she made sure her children were too. She also loved to drive, and despite her petite stature, she was a true “road warrior,” traveling from Indiana to Texas, Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina, New York, and back again.
Later in life, Catherine recommitted her faith to the Lord. She often shared the cherished story of being baptized in a bathtub while living in South Carolina as a member of the Church of the Living God.
Catherine was previously married to the late Fred Thomas Moore, with whom she had two children. She is survived by her devoted daughter and caretaker, Lorrell (Ricky) Torres of Houston, TX, and her son, Sidney (Aisha) Moore of Geneva, NY. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Jolie K. Tillotson and Sarah Johnson, both of Houston, TX; and Savannah Moore, Andrew Moore, Austin Moore, and A’siah “AJ” Moore, all of Geneva, NY. In addition to her immediate family Cat leaves behind a host of loving, caring friends and relatives in Indiana, Alabama, Colorado, Texas, New York, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Catherine was later married to Mr. Kenneth George, who also preceded her in death.
Catherine’s legacy is one of love, laughter, faith, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her
