Bertie Beatrice Cornwell LaDuke's Obituary
Bertie Beatrice Cornwell LaDuke, 89, of Houston, Texas, passed away on March 10, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on July 7, 1934, Bertie was the daughter of Beverly L. Cornwell and Bertie Beatrice Cook, hailing from Sour Lake, Texas. She grew up in a close-knit community, where her love for caring and compassion blossomed.
Bertie and Fredrick, two souls destined to intertwine, found themselves in the vibrant city of Houston. On January 14, 1966 Bertie and Fredrick LaDuke exchanged vows in her hometown of Sour Lake.
Bertie’s dedication to her profession as a Registered Nurse spanned over 40 years, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. Beyond her nursing career, Bertie was a passionate advocate for animals. For over 25 years, she tirelessly supported the Westie and Scottie Rescue organization. Her heart belonged to her West Highland Terriers, and she formed deep connections with fellow dog enthusiasts who shared her love for these spirited companions.
Bertie is survived by her devoted daughter, Wendy LaDuke Blount, and her son-in-law, Laurence Allen Blount, both residing in Houston, Texas. Her legacy continues through her two cherished grandchildren, Kaylee Elizabeth Blount and Zoe Therese Blount, who will forever carry her spirit. In addition to her immediate family, Bertie leaves behind her loyal canine companion, Sophie, who brought her immense joy and comfort.
Bertie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fredrick LaDuke, and her parents: Beverly and Bertie Cornwell. She also mourned the loss of her stepmother, Bertha Terry Cornwell, and her siblings: brothers Beverly, Paul, and David, and her sister, Caroline Cornwell.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Westie and Scottie Rescue Houston at wsrh.com. Bertie’s passion for animal welfare lives on through this worthy cause.
