Bertha Marie Sturm's Obituary
Surrounded by the love of her family and the memories she cherished, Bertha Marie Sturm, age 83, of Old River-Winfree, Texas, passed away on May 8, 2026. Born on December 31, 1942, in Goose Creek, Texas, to Bernard Charles and Ida Elise Baros, Bertha entered the world with a gentle spirit that would become her lifelong gift to others.
Bertha grew up with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and the simple joys that make a life meaningful. On January 31, 1959, she married the love of her life, Gary Lee Sturm, in Jacinto City, Texas. Their marriage was a true partnership—full of devotion, laughter, and the kind of steady love that anchors a family for generations. They shared 42 wonderful years together until his passing in 2001. Together, they built a home where warmth was felt the moment you walked through the door.
A devoted homemaker, Bertha poured her heart into caring for her family. She had a quiet strength and a nurturing presence that made everyone feel safe and loved. She enjoyed the peaceful rhythm of reading, working through word searches and crossword puzzles, and listening to the country music that spoke to her soul—especially the voices of Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, whose songs often filled her home.
Bertha’s greatest joy came from time spent with her family. Whether gathered around the table, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company, she treasured every moment. Her love was steady, unconditional, and felt deeply by all who knew her.
Bertha is survived by her son, Douglas “Doug” Sturm, and wife, Rhonda Sturm; her daughter, Tina Marie Sturm; her grandson, Kris Sturm; great-grandsons, James G. Sturm and Easton B. Sturm; her step-great-grandsons, Cameron L. Simon and Hayden P. Dalton; and her great-great-grandson, Lucien William Atlas Sturm. Each of them carries a piece of her heart and her love.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Lee Sturm; her parents, Bernard Charles and Ida Elise Baros; and her sister, Joyce Ann Battles. Though she has reunited with them, her presence will continue to be felt in the lives she touched.
Bertha will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle humor, her laughter, her unwavering love for her family, and the quiet grace with which she moved through the world. Her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fill, but her memory will forever be a blessing.
She will be forever loved, always remembered.
