Barbara Gaither Rhodes' Obituary
Barbara Jean Gaither Rhodes Born January 21, 1937, joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on May 5, 2024. In her 87 years, she lived a full life. It all began in Baytown TX when she was born to parents Lois Cecile West Gaither and Father Raymond Ernest Gaither. She was an only child and spoiled as can be.
She accepted her Lord and Savior into her life at age 11 and for the rest of her life, trusted Him and His guidance in her life. Attending school in Channelview and Baytown, she enjoyed her studies and being on the Brigadier dance team.
She met the love of her life, Augustus Keener Rhodes Jr. in Channelview TX while in school.
They married on May 28, 1953, at Second Baptist Channelview.
Together they made a life full of love including 4 children.
First was Raymond Kieth in 1954, Augustus Keener III “Trey” in 1957, Barbara Deanean in 1960 and Candace Cecile in 1962.
Barbara loved all her children and loved being a mother.
Besides her job as a mother and housewife, she worked at Channelview Bank and also many years as the Manager of the “Blue Barn” cafeteria at Channelview High School.
Barbara accompanied her husband Gus on many travels. California and Colorado are just a few places she loved to be. That silver streak rv saw many miles with them hand and hand.
Upon retirement, they still didn’t stop working. She and Gus decided to raise and sell quail and their eggs. They were very successful in this venture, also having customers such as Texas A&M.
She enjoyed deer hunting with her husband and kids, making hair bows and t-shirts with her daughters, painting beautiful pictures and being around her grandkids, great grandkids, and great, great grandkids.
She is proceeded in death by:

Husband Augustus “Gus” Keener Rhodes Jr.
Children Raymond Kieth Rhodes and Augustus Keener “Trey” Rhodes III
Grand Children Augustus Keener “Dusty” Rhodes IV, Amamda “Mandy” Kay Rhodes Burks, Tiffany Dell Rhodes, and Great Grandchild Gabriel Trey Rasberry
