Mr. Augustus Keener "Gus" Rhodes Jr.'s Obituary
Augustus Keener “Gus” Rhodes Jr. was born July 30, 1935 in Homer, Louisiana where he lived for 14 years. He was born to parents, A.K. Rhodes Sr. and Dorothy Lee Orr and was the second of two boys.
Gus attended school at Channelview ISD where he earned his GED. After completing his GED, he went on to begin his lifelong career as a Journeyman Pipefitter with the Local 211 Union. He was a member for 58 years. He retired after 50 years and then went into the business of raising quail. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and was an avid hunter and fisherman. They resided in Channelview, TX.
Gus married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Gaither, May 28, 1953 and spent 64 wonderful years together. A member of the Old River Terrace Methodist church, he wanted every one of his friends and family to know he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
On March 16, 1978, he became a 32nd degree Mason with Lloyd L. Gibson chapter and council. The most memorable moments that meant the most to Gus had to be the birth of his 4 children, Keith, Trey, Deanean and Candy, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren.
He loved Classic country music. Gus was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and friend. He was honest, trustworthy, a leader, a hard worker and a faithful man. He was the head of five generations. He led with immense pride and understanding. He will be dearly missed.
Gus is preceded in death by his father Augustus K. Rhodes Sr.; mother, Dorothy Orr and Jack Wampler; his brother, Sydney Rhodes; his sons, Raymond Keith Rhodes and A.K.”Trey” Rhodes III; grandchildren, A.K. “Dusty” Rhodes IV, Amanda K. Rhodes; and great grandson, Gabriel Trey Rasberry.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Barbara Jean Rhodes; his daughters: Barbara Deanean Oswalt and husband James and Candace Ceciele Huett and husband Mike; grandchildren, Nikki LaDean Richter, Brandi Jean Powell, Cheeria Cie Richter, Allan Keith Rhodes, Shyanna Lee Richter, Alesia Rhodes-Chavez, Tawny Deann Moore, Tiffany Dell Hollomon, Michael Alan Huett (Bubba), and Hope Nicole Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Nikolas, Jaslin, Valorie, Heaven, Austin, Sage, Ashton, Christian, Mikey, Cheyenne, Dalton, Victoria, Corbin, Peyton, Ace, Abby, August, Roman, Jaxen, Augusta, Alyssa, Payton, Emma, Audrey and Hunter; great-great-grandchildren, Cierra, Cadence and Malakai.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nikolas Rhodes, Austin Brewer, Billy Brewer, Allan Rhodes, Harley Oswalt, Christian Castro, Mike "Bubba" Huett Jr. and Aurelio Castro.
Officiating Pastors will be Pastor Jim Jackson of the First United Methodist Church of Normangee and Flynn United Methodist Church and Pastor Kent Wilson of South Drive Baptist Church.
