Alvie "Al" Elmer Howard Jr.'s Obituary
Alvie "Al" Elmer Howard, Jr. was born July 10, 1941 to Alvie Elmer Howard, Sr. and Jewell Neta Howard of Guthrie, Oklahoma. He peacefully left this Earth on November 2, 2014 in his home in Houston, TX, at the age of 73.
Alvie proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he served as an Electrician's Mate for 8 years (1960 - 1968). These skills opened the door for him in the Offshore Drilling business designing and rebuilding engines for offshore rigs.
A job opportunity led him to Houston in 1980, and it was there that he would meet the love of his life, Ellen Goff. They were happily married and recently celebrated 30 years together. He was a good husband and a proud father.
He was a gracious and compassionate person who enjoyed God's creation: natural wonders, animals, and especially people. He truly never met a "stranger". He loved his family, and especially his grandchildren.
As a boy, in a little church in Oklahoma, he walked as isle to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior; and that decision was further solidified when he rededicated his life in March 2014. He was a faithful member of Uvalde Baptist Church.
Alvie is preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Goff of Houston, TX, his sons Robert Dawson of Houston, TX and Roger Dawson and wife Jaclyn of Greenville, TX, and three precious grandchildren, Michael Alexander of League City, TX and Reah and Reagan Dawson of Greenville, TX.
Visitation will be held at San Jacinto Funeral Chapel Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral servce will be at San Jacinto Funeral Chapel Friday, November 7, 2014 at 1:00 PM with burial to follow in our San Jacinto Memorial Park Cemetery.
