Mr. Al J. Schomber's Obituary
Al J. Schomber, 76, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Schomber was born in New York City on December 19, 1935 to Albert and Anna Frances Keane Schomber. Life in the Bronx during WWII was not easy, but Al persevered and went on to graduate from high school in Sallisaw, OK where he graduated in 1954 having been a member of the All State Basketball team. He obtained his B.S. at what was then Sul Ross State College in Alpine, Texas. There he met Annetta Lee. The day after her college graduation Al and Annetta were married and for 51 years shared both the joys and sorrows of life together as one. Al's first teaching job was in the small west Texas town of Valentine. Subsequently he went on to obtain his MEd. from the current Sam Houston State University and taught history and was an often noted coach in the Galena Park I.S.D., North Forest I.S.D., and in 1992 retired, ending his teaching career with the Anahuac I.S.D. Al is survived by his beloved Annetta; their children Al John Schomber and his fiance Ginger and Stephen James Schomber and wife Brandy; grandchildren Alyssa, Austin, Cameron, Paige, and Emerie; his brothers Robert Schomber and wife Chris and Martin Hill; his mother-in-law Vesta Lee; sister-in-law Loretta Spaugh and her husband Dwain, and numerous other relatives. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2012 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at San Jacinto Funeral Home. A Celebration of Al's Life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 P.M. with Al's former student Rev. Johnny Brady officiating. Private interment will be at a later date.
