WILMER KENZIE (W.K.)HICKS, JR. Remembering the Life, Death and Sports Legacy of W.K. HICKS, JR. HICKS—Wilmer Kenzie Hicks, Jr., known and loved by all as W.K., died at, age 77 in Houston, Texas on Friday, May 8, 2020. Born in Texarkana, AR and raised in Texarkana, TX, the only son and child of Jodye and Wilmer Kenzie Hicks, Sr. W.K. who was loved by all leaves a legacy of his many sports accomplishments from high school, college and success in pro football. He was an All American during his attendance at Texas Southern University (TSU) and many great accomplishment during his pro career in football with the Houston Oilers and the New York Jets. After W.K.’s retirement from his pro sports life, and being offered several jobs in education, he decided to come out of retirement from sports to begin a new career in the Hotel business. W.K. enjoyed his career with the Lancaster Hotel in giving the ultimate customer service in guest relations. Hicks was truly loved there and he remained faithful until his second retirement. He leaves to cherish his memories and is survived by his wife, Mary L. Hicks, sons, Wilmer K. Hicks, III, Torrance D. Hicks (Brenda), Crai L. Hicks (Latasha), daughters, Vanessa J. Allen, Tiffany Hicks Curwen (Michael), Staci V. Harris (Felecia), Kamala D. Grant, and Kimala C. Grant. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Etauj J. Allen (Janet), Eric J. Allen (Kierra), Elexus Allen Breaux (Von), Crai L. Hicks, Jr., Terrick D. Hicks, Craivahn L. Hicks, Jahmeil N. Curwen, Somaiya K. Curwen, Zoya-Raine N. Hicks, Skylar E. Hicks, Brittany C. Kimble, Brandii C. Kimble and seven great grandchildren. A small home-going celebration due to COV19 restrictions will be held and live-streamed on Saturday, May 16, 2020 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a slide-show capturing the life of this legend along with precious family memories. This will be followed at 11:00 -12:00 p.m. with services and then burial at the San Jacinto Memorial Park & Funeral Home located at 14659 East Fwy., Houston, TX. 77015.
