October 2, 1921 - April 22, 2020
Mary Elizabeth Rutledge Robertson (Robbie) at 98 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 22, 2020. Born on October 2, 1921 in Rock Creek, Colorado to Henry Rutledge and Delma Larick Rutledge. Robbie was a member of the “Greatest Generation” of America. She was always an adventurous and active child. Robbie survived a nearly fatal experience with Scarlet Fever, which taught her at an early age the value and importance of making life count. Robbie held a wide variety of occupations throughout her life, including owning a restaurant and managing a jewelry store. As a resilient member of the “Greatest Generation” she not only persevered through the Great Depression, but she stepped up as a dutiful American during WWII and worked at the San Jacinto Ordnance Depot, painting and preparing combat vehicles for the military. Robbie thoroughly enjoyed gardening, traveling, socializing and helping others. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and making memories together. Robbie married the love of her life, Milton George (Mick) Robertson, and together they raised two children, Shirley Sue Robertson Keene and Ralph James (Jim) Robertson. Mick had two children from a previous marriage Georgie Robertson McVay and Bruce Robertson, who were a big part of the family, though they lived in Ohio. Robbie and Mick provided a close, loving home for their family and her family meant everything to her, including her stepchildren. Robbie was a member of the Holy Trinity Methodist Church and her strong faith was always a guiding force in her life. Robbie was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for forty years and held the highest degree of Torchbearer. Through her sorority, she made lasting friendships and donated to charitable causes in many ways throughout the years. Robbie was preceded in death by her husband Mick, and is survived by her loving children, Shirley Keene and husband Keith, Jim Robertson and wife Cindy, Georgie McVay and husband Brad and Bruce Robertson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dawn Griffin husband Bryan, Mark Griffin wife Laura, Lacey Robertson, Justin Robertson wife Katrina. She had eight additional grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Robbie has too many people to count who loved her like a second mom because she welcomed them into her life with as much love as she gave to her own children. Robbie brought happiness to everyone around her and always thought of others first. She survived many hardships in her life and persevered through them maintaining a “heart of gold” and a positive outlook. She was the matriarch of her loving family and will continue to be an Angel for all her loved ones beyond this life. The love and joy she offered was her gift. Her warm, welcoming spirit shined so bright that it would light up a room and, in this way, her life will continue to glow and light the way for others. Her legacy is one that will stand the test of time and her memory will be cherished and honored, always. In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, a private interment service for immediate family will be held. The family will hold a memorial celebration of Robbie’s life at a later date (tentatively October 2020) and will communicate details in the future. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Trinity Methodist Church at 13207 Orleans St. Houston, 77015 in memory of Robbie Robertson.
